Why New York Fashion Week is Important

Posted on Feb 14, 2012

It’s amazing where we find inspiration.

For the last week, our Facebook and Twitter feeds have been full of updates from New York Fashion week. Admittedly, it can be a little intimidating to try and wrap your head around what these elaborate fashion shows mean to us, and how they directly connect to the clothes and jewelry most of us actually end up buying and wearing. But look back to the last few seasons on the runway, and inevitably you’ll find something there in your closet now.

High fashion is made much more accessible through bloggers and TV shows. This past week, several of us at Chamilia HQ were talking about the all stars on this season’s Project Runway (if you haven’t checked it out, you need to!) and they reinforce the concept of bringing high end style to our everyday lives. The runway critics and articles give us tips and inspire us. And of course, give us confidence to push ourselves to do something different with our style when we leave the house.

We instantly thought of last years show and realized there are many inspiration pieces that have made their way into our closets! The stripes that remind us of the bold 70’s, the layers of plaids and tartan that is in our suits and shirts, and the beautiful ruffles that are looking as beautiful as ever on so many blouses.

With the upcoming launch of the spring line with Chamilia, our designers pulled a lot of inspiration from the runways. While it’s always exciting to see the sketches evolve into the final bead, it’s even more fun when it’s so fashion driven. When we see it on the runway, we start thinking about how we can twist certain items that are in our closets, and of course our shopping lists for what to add in order to energize our look.

Yes, sometimes they are outlandish yet that’s the amazing part of watching the show and making connections between runway and real life: That we are getting permission and inspiration to push our own style, if only by a little.

In the coming months you’ll see a lot of stories and images about spring and what we are looking to inspire us (as well as on our shopping lists). Make sure you follow us on Facebook and Twitter as they’ll be the constant source of news. There’s so much happening and it’s very exciting!

Inspiration: SoHo

Posted on Jan 12, 2012

For our soon-to-be released SoHo collection, our design team was inspired by the edginess of the famous Manhattan neighborhood. They put together this mood board as they worked on the collection. Stay tuned for more SoHo images, and don’t forget to check out the beads when they go live next week!

Introducing: The Cabaret Collection

With rich colors and ornate details, our designers worked to bring artistic influences from the past to the present and capture the spirit of the cabaret for our new collection. Enjoy this glimpse of the mood board they used as inspiration.

A Feminine Take on a Masculine Look

Posted on Nov 14, 2011

Anne from Chamilia Design was inspired by the fall menswear trend when she put this look together. We thought the femininity of the tassel necklace played really well against the stricter lines of masculine fashion, and we love the play of the sparkly beads on such a pulled together look.
